+1 from me. I also think Tom has a good point about API stability/evolvability. Might I suggest that in a month or two, we schedule an API review with Steve N. and/or others from the SWT team. I'd like to uncover API evolvability issues earlier rather than later in the process.

While our widgets are generally packaged individually we still need to set and release versions. This allows our users to know and understand what to expect regarding support. In other words, once a widget is released they can expect to get fixes without having to endure the risk of new features. In order to stay simple, we should release the first version of Nebula to coincide with the 3.3 release of Eclipse. I don't think anyone should have a problem with this (its about 6 months away) but let me know if you do. What I need from each of you is a personal commitment to prepare your widget (i.e. make em stable) for the 3.3 release. This would require you ensure that your widget can be delivered in the 3.3 timeframe (June/July 07). I also need a commitment from everyone to complete the following things: Javadoc - Professional development requires professional docs. We should also strive to match the SWT convention for javadoc including the standard formatting for widget styles and events and the @throws in method javadoc. Website pages - each widget should have a page on www.eclipse.org/nebula Examples - each widget should provide an example tab in the examples project Snippets - each widget should have a few snippets demonstrating simple usage. Our current committer list is: Chris (me) Jeremy David Eric Nicolas I need a commitment from Jeremy and David. Eric and Nicolas have yet to pass the Eclipse IP process. Eric, Nicolas, can both of you give me a status of where you stand in that process? Have you been assigned commit rights? Have you been given any indication by the Eclipse folks when you can except IP approval? (I took some time to send these docs) For my widget, having all this done within 6 months seems ok, if the IP process goes smoothly. (may be not with all the features I planned like groups) Anyway, I'm ready to work on it. -- Nicolas On 11/28/06, Chris Gross <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Nebula Committers, > > We have not spoken much about release plans for the Nebula project as a > whole. You don't have to have your widget 100% complete by 3.3. Just stable and reasonably bug-free. We will, of course, start working on the next release after 3.3 where you can add any remaining features. Ok, still waiting to hear from Jeremy, David and Eric. Thats one of the main reasons for producing a release - for API stability. Once we can't make any more breaking changes.
