I just took a look at the NASA image library. They are several nebula images that could be used for the logo. (Boomerang nebula is nice). There pictures are not subject to copyright (as explained on a dedicated page).
The font used in Edwin's work, with a reworked (transparency, effects) nebula image could be a nice logo. I'll try to send some proof of concept this week.
