Bowdoin College invites applications for the Assistant Coach of Sailing. The Assistant Coach assists in all aspects of the intercollegiate Sailing team including practice, race day logistics, travel and other team events. This position is responsible for implementing plans devised by the head coach in an effective manner; teaching sailing techniques and, analyzing water and boat conditions; supervising the performance of the team and student athletes during practice and intercollegiate competition; and managing administrative tasks (scheduling facilities, making travel and budget requests) in a timely and efficient manner.
This is a temporary, non-benefits-eligible position beginning on March 01, 2009 and ending on May 30, 2009. Education/Skills Requirements: A high school diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field is strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Required skills include: Knowledge of sailing techniques and training methods and ability to effectively teach them; ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department, the college community and the ability to influence his/her athletes to do the same; working knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them. The coach must be self directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work in a stressful environment. Valid driver's license and ability to meet the standards of the College's current Motor Vehicle Policy is required. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be maintained. Subject to pre-placement physical and criminal background check. Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents: Demonstrated effectiveness in college coaching is preferred. Standard Work Days and Hours: Monday - Friday 3:00 - 7:00 PM with weekend hours as necessary. Average of 35 hours per week. Schedule varies throughout the season but includes regular weekend events and travel.
