NEISA:

The University of Vermont Catamounts and the Dartmouth Big Green are
thrilled to host the 2009 Reed Trophy at the University of Vermont. As you
all may know, this will be the Catamount's first time hosting a major spring
championship, and we are excited to welcome everyone to Lake Champlain.

Fifteen teams are registered for this regatta: Amherst Lady Jeffs, Bates
Bobcats, Boston College Eagles, Boston University Terriers, Brown Bears,
Connecticut Camels, Coast Guard Bears, Dartmouth Big Green, Harvard Crimson,
MIT Engineers, Roger Williams Hawks, Rhode Island Rams, Tufts Jumbos,
Vermont Catamounts, Yale Elis. We will be running a direct swap, with a
bye-boat at the rotation docks.

Report Time is 9:30 AM at the Coast Guard Ramp in Burlington. Our fleet of
boats will be on dollies at the ramp. The Skipper's Meeting will be held at
the ramp promptly at 9:45 (your A division sailors should be dressed), and
we will launch immediately following the skipper's meeting. UVM is a wet
launching site this time of year.

Regatta Operations and Rotations will take place at the Burlington
Boathouse, a quarter-mile north of the ramp on the Burlington Waterfront.
We will be using the Northeast dock there to rotate. Please note, there is
an ankle-high pressure strap at the top of this ramp that must remain there
all weekend. Be careful not to trip over it. The satellite regatta notice
board will be at the top of this dock. The main regatta notice board will
be the whiteboard in the UVM Sailing Building. RP Forms will be available
at the ramp on Saturday, and thereafter will be on the workbench in the UVM
Sailing Building.

The Boathouse has an excellent viewing deck for spectating, but the inside
room and west docks will not be open, so teams are encouraged to perform
most of their staging (dressing, food/coolers, etc) at their vans. You may
be able to move your coolers to the deck by the rotation dock, but please
keep in mind the entire area we are using will be public space and open to
the public, and since it'll be the first nice weekend on the waterfront all
the Burlington crazies will definitely be out! You certainly want to keep
any valuables (wallets, that Ipod with your women's team pump-up mix, and
anything that a homeless person might think is valuable) locked in your van.

Free parking will be available in the Union St. Lot for the Main Street
Landing Building, which will be on your left as you approach the Burlington
Boathouse. They do not monitor the lot on weekends this time of year.
Overnight parking will not be allowed.

The Race Course will be West of the Burlington Breakwater. Our plan is to
run W4s all day long, with the option to run W3s or W5s if we see an
easterly breeze (which is extremely unlikely). The marks will be clarified
at the skipper's meeting, but the majority of marks will be large inflatable
tetrahedrons and cylinders. Please note that the finish pin will likely be
a small orange ball, but we will clarify at the skipper's meeting.

The forecast is excellent right now: 82 degrees and sunny, with breeze South
at 8-12 knots. This will create quite the dressing conundrum; the water is
a balmy 38 degrees today. The water will be cold this weekend, so please
come prepared. We will try to run as many races as possible while we have
breeze on Saturday.

UVM's 2004 FJ fleet will be used, with Dartmouth's brand new Winters Sails.
Our boats have completely filled rails, and have been repaired feverishly to
ensure they are even. The mast step bolt is 8'9" from the stern of the
boat, and at 23 on a Loos PT1 our rake is 19'10".

We will have three coachboats provided: a 19' Mako piloted by Mike O'Connor,
a 17' Carolina Skiff, and a Coast Guard Inflatable piloted by Brian
Swingly. Coaches MUST have lifejackets and MUST NOT exceed the allowable
capacity of each boat; we are launching and in full view of the US Coast
Guard Station for the entire time both days. No lifejacket, bring
binoculars; you'll be able to see alot from the viewing deck anyway.
Finally, the entire area inside the breakwater is a no-wake zone, so plan to
go slowly inside the cut of the breakwater.

It will be a long sail from the starting line to the rotation docks, so
please rotate as quickly as possible. We need to hustle. Please be aware
of recreational traffic. As stated above, it will be the first nice weekend
in Burlington, so you can bet a bunch of Vermonters who haven't been on the
water in 8 months will be itching to launch their powerboats; be safe,
manueverable, and clear of all recreational traffic.

Head Judge is Janice Lange. Supporting jury will be Caitlyn Connolly (UVM
08) and James Unsworth (RWU 08). On the water rule 42 judging will be
provided, with the jury in a 17' Carolina Skiff.

NEISA Representative will be John Mollicone.
PRO is Justin Assad.
RC will be John Storck.
Head Scorers will be Charlotte Smith (UVM 09) and Connor Aswad (UVM 12).
On-shore repair guy will be Alden Winder (UVM 10). The rest of the
Catamounts should be around to keep things running smoothly.

The Sailing Instructions are attached to this email. Any questions about
the sailing instructions must be submitted in writing to the jury. I can
take these and forward them via email until Friday night. Questions about
logisitics will be answered at the skipper's meeting, or at any time prior
to that.

If you want to come sail practice tomorrow, just let me know and we'll get
you in.

Again, UVM and Dartmouth are very excited to welcome the NEISA Women's teams
to Lake Champlain, and to a little slice of the Northern Alliance. See you
on Saturday.
