MIT proposes to host the 2014 Women New England Championship for the Reed Trophy. We will be using MIT's FJs and H's (or BUs) FJs for the event. MIT has a strong history of being a frontrunner for Women's Collegiate Sailing, and annually hosts the Toni Deutsch Regatta in the Fall, and occasionally hosts the Stu Nelson. All three regattas (Reed, Deutsch, and Nelson) are trophies named after folks affiliated with MIT who were pioneers in Women's Collegiate Sailing (Jerry Reed - former Sailing Master when MIT awarded the first varsity letter to a female - a sailor named Antonia "Toni" Deutsch (Schuman); and Stu Nelson - the first coach dedicated to woman's college sailing, all here at MIT).
With both MIT and H having storm jibs available for their FJs, the wind range for the event is large, with races being able to be sailed in 3-25 knots, depending on the direction. Coaching will likely be held from land, though there may be a provision for coach boats depending on the wind direction. It should be noted that BDC is the same weekend. The boats available for the BDC will be the MIT Fireflies and BU (or H's) FJs. My guess is that would make the BDC into a Hatch-like format (two divisions sailing at any time w/ no lunch breaks). Both BU and H have offered their fleets for these events to coexist.
