PRODUCT INFORMATION:

PRODUCT SUMMARY:
With government agencies and businesses doubling their data
storage needs each year, it's become essential to store data less
expensively while retaining high performance and reliability.
Coraid has introduced EtherDrive Storage Blades, a low-cost, scalable
way to implement networked storage. EtherDrive Storage Blades are
Ethernet-connected hard disk drives that enable companies to
assemble storage-area networks (SANs) for less than $2 per
gigabyte, which is a fraction of the cost of the Fibre Channel networked storage
used in a traditional SAN.
EtherDrive Storage Blades use the AoE (ATA-Over-Ethernet) protocol,
which enables them to be accessed directly as block storage devices
using standard Ethernet technology. The blades integrate standard
ATA disk drives into a flexible rack-mounted storage appliance. Each
blade includes its own Ethernet connection and microprocessor to
provide protocol conversion from Ethernet to ATA.
The blades can be shared in storage pools from 250G bytes to more
than 16 petabytes.
Features and benefits of EtherDrive Storage Blades include:
- Unlimited storage. Any number of drives can be attached to a
single server, and there are no limits to array expansion. Each time
storage capacity is increased, more processing power is added.
- Simple to manage. Each EtherDrive is a disk connected to the host
system via Ethernet, so theres no need to master complex
management software or learn new technology such as Fibre
Channel.
- Small minimum configuration. The minimum configuration is a single
EtherDrive Storage Blade and a single shelf.
- Easy to install and expand. EtherDrives require no configuration,
and the cost of installation is less than adding direct-attached storage.
- Flexible performance. Since EtherDrives are direct network
attachments, you can adjust performance by adding the Ethernet
switches that match your requirements.
