The Jewish marriage tradition is fascinating. The two principle characters in the ancient Hebrew ceremony are the Bridegroom, or 'Khatan,' meaning one who joins himself, and the Virgin, or 'Almah,' meaning veiled one. She keeps herself hidden and separated. Spiritually, we can apply this to ourselves becoming the bride, hidden and veiled in our sin and yet becoming joined to God despite the distance. God, the Khatan, comes near and joins Himself to us in our separation, exchanging our veil of sin with His robe of righteousness and garments of salvation.

"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels." Isaiah 61:10
