TODAY'S TOP STORIES

Its a bird, its a plane
The Siberian cranes have lost their bearings, so a man and his flying machine could
very well guide them across the route that was once their annual pilgrimage. It seems
the stuff of fiction. A pilot and a hang glider will try to pass off as a crane. The
real Siberian cranes, who were last spotted here in the winter of 2001, are expected
to follow.

To climb out of fiscal hole, Bengal govt looks at helping hand, not its nationality
During his recent meeting with British CEOs, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soothed
their nerves with stories of how even Communist-ruled West Bengal was now welcoming
foreign investment. What Singh did not mention perhaps because it has not been
publicised is the states latest move to help sort out its financial mess.

referee Ranjan Madugalle was a lost man. He had just heard Virender Sehwag explain his
show of dissent after the LBW decision by umpire Billy Bowden, and his verdict was
ready. But he simply couldnt find any BCCI official to announce it.

Whos won in New Delhi key to who will win in wine country
Prahlad Khadangle, a rich vineyard owner in the Niphad assembly constituency of Nashik
district, Vithal Paged in the much poorer Pangri village in Sinnar constituency and
Kachru Agawule Khed in the adivasi hamlet of Khamala in the ST reserved seat of
