TODAY'S eTIP(TM): Making a Hanging Indent in Word
A hanging indent hasn't committed a felony. Instead, it's a
paragraph in which the first line sticks out to the left and the
rest of the paragraph is indented. To create such a beast in your
Word document, follow these steps:
1. Move the toothpick cursor to the paragraph you want to
hang and indent.
Or, you can position the cursor to where you want to type a
new, hanging-indent paragraph.
2. Press Ctrl+T, the Hanging Indent shortcut.
The Ctrl+T in Word moves the paragraph over to the first tab
stop but keeps the first line in place.
You can also accomplish this task in the Paragraph dialog
box. Choose Hanging from the Special drop-down list and
enter the indent (usually half an inch) in the By box. Click
OK!
Here are a few more pointers to remember:
* The hanging indent is really an
indent-everything-but-the-first-line-of-the-paragraph
type of indent.
* If you want to indent the paragraph even more, press
the Ctrl+T key more than once.
* To undo a hanging indent, press Ctrl+Shift+T. That's
the unhang key combination, and your paragraph's neck
will be put back in shape.
