By Jeff Caruso Who's being protected - WLAN consumers or vendors? Datacomm Research President Ira Brodsky says the Wi-Fi Alliance's recent warning to wireless LAN vendors isn't what you might think. The alliance recently told vendors to refrain from claiming their products conform to a standard that doesn't exist yet. Brodsky says this move is really just a tool for established WLAN vendors to retain their hold on the market. <http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/112204brodsky.html?vo> As a country, we've got work to do Much has been made of how divided this country has become in recent years. Winn Schwartau says forget all that - when it comes to IT and security, there is much we can all agree on. But that doesn't let us off the hook, as we have to take that stuff we agree on and make it policy. <http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/112204schwartau.html?vo> What Cisco worries about Kevin Tolly this week highlights a chink in Cisco's armor. As companies open up to the idea of using low-cost network hardware instead of Cisco name-brand gear, start-ups could win with the right message. <http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/112204tolly.html?vo> Picture imperfect Stamps.com had a great idea: allow customers to put their own pictures on U.S. postage. But then someone hit on the anti-idea, and that has put Stamps.com's future in jeopardy. 'Net Buzzman Paul McNamara explains. <http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/112204buzz.html?vo> _______________________________________________________________ To contact: Jeff Caruso Jeff Caruso is managing editor of online news for Network World.
