Nasty Virus Hides in Web Banner Ads
Now, Internet ads can infect your system -- through a known
vulnerability in Internet Explorer. Over the weekend,
thieves broke into an ad server in Germany and delivered up
malware to thousands of users via hundreds of Web sites.
What's even scarier: It can happen again without notice. Our
story details how the exploit works, and what you can do to
keep yourself safe.

New Version of GPL Due Soon
It's called the "GNU General Public License," and it's the
mechanism by which code and programs are distributed freely
for all to use and modify. It's held up well over the past
13 years, but it's about to be updated. In what way? Our
story details what may be changed, when the new license will
become law, and how that might affect you. Plus, our Linux
insider weighs in on what it means, and why it's about time.

How Search Engine Experts Conspire to Trick You
That wasn't the theme of the recent World Search Conference,
but it certainly seemed to be the underlying motivation. We
sent our Internet reporter down to cover the show, and he
came back with a fascinating look at how sites legitimately
twist their content to rank higher, along with a look at
failed strategies that just don't work. We've got the latest
details on search engine science in his report, plus a look
at how the almighty dollar still ranks (no pun intended)
when it comes to rising to the top of search results.

Arm Wrestling from Afar
You've heard about presence, right, where through video
conferencing you can appear to be somewhere you are not?
Well, now presence has been extended to the realm of the
dorky -- long-distance arm wrestling. PC Magazine site
editor Lance Ulanoff just finished arm wrestling with
someone from across the country, and he came away impressed
(if a bit sweaty). Find out what this means for more, well,
prosaic long-distance pursuits, and how you can get your
hands on this push-over device.

Nintendo Hits Home Run with DS
It's an almost-perfect portable gaming machine, and it
changes the face of gaming on the go. How'd they do it? By
putting in two screens and making one a touch screen. I
loved the DS when I previewed it back at E3 in May, and I'm
glad that the final version fulfills the promise. If you're
looking for the perfect gift for a gamer on the go, don't
miss our review -- and our list of the best places to buy
one for less.

Oracle vs. PeopleSoft: When Will the Madness End?
It's like watching a slow, drawn-out tennis match. First,
Oracle serves up more than 60 percent of shares tendered for
the buyout. Then, the PeopleSoft board volleys with an "over
my dead body" response. Oracle backhands with a thinly
veiled threat to give in or else. What will happen next in
this high-stakes game of racquet and ball? We've got all of
the latest details in our special report.
