Hey guys, hows everything....
New to the site and i cant figure out how it works yet but i'm sure i'll figure it out. Not as stupid as i look hahaha.
I only fish saltwater and basically i only fish for Stripers. I'm located on the Rhode Island coast and we have, hands down, some of the best striper fishing in the USA.
I see we're talking rods here........Even though i'm purchasing a new St Croix and most likely hanging a Van Staal 300 series off it, I've been fishing for years with my off the shelf Diawa Eliminators, i have the 9' and the monster 15'. I tell my friends all the time, its not the rod as much as the reel. I've stood next to them time after time when they get a good size fish on just to listen to the inside of their 40 dollar reel, eat itself. I hang a Penn 8500ss off the 9 footer and a put a Penn 9500ss on the 15'. this last season i picked up an Okuma Solaris 9' surfcaster. all graphite. This rod is strictly for throwing plugs and various plastics. It will outcast most. instead of an Okuma reel, which i heard nothing really good about, i hung a Penn Slammer 560 off of it. I have a bunch of other old rods from my father and they all have the old Penn Conventional reels on them in perfect condition. Every reel i own has PowerPro 30# braided line.
the cast you get out of PP is fanominal.
Ok i bored you guys enough talking about rods and reels.
I started the season in R.I. with a 50" 49lb Striper from shore at night and the season was like that until last week. 99% of the time, i'm all about catch and release....but.... one of the most important items in my plug bag is my digital camera, dont leave home without it. so before i threw back the cow, of course i snapped off a picture. i already posted it in the "photos" section of the site.
