getting old, as I am exhausted. One of the
reasons I am so tired is that I had to go into the water to release the
rudder. Thank God I live in SW Florida where
the weather was very nice in the mid 70's and the temp of the water was
refreshing.
As for my rudder, it ain't like my old one! The blue line that pulls the
rudder down where it goes around the arc
slipped off and I couldn't pull the rudder down. I don't recall whether my
old boat rudder had the "down" line
captured or just loose going around the arc of the rudder. In the past when
lowering the rudder I would pull
it very quickly to insure it went to the "down" position and just used the
clam cleat to hold it down. This time the blue
"down" line seemed to get wedged between the rudder blade and the side
cheeks that support the rudder.
Have other people had this problem, if so, how did you solve it?
Another item I noticed is the cap shrouds; the connection between the lower
and upper wire and the
upper block was different. On my two past F-Boats, (F-24 and F-27), the
block and tackle shackle was
captured by the large shackle with the lower eye in the middle. On this
F-Boat it is side by side. It seems this
method, the load wouldn't be as balanced.
Other than that the boat seems to be alright however I haven't installed the
boom or raised the main as yet. This all
takes time when you are 72 years of age. When you're retired, there is
always tomorrow to play with my toy!
