FLORIDA BRACES FOR FIRST FREEZING WEATHER OF SEASON
Florida braced for its coldest temperatures of the season as the National
Weather Service issued freeze warnings or watches for 48 of the states 67
counties Tuesday. Freeze warnings for temperatures forecast to remain at 32
degrees or below for an hour or more were in effect over most of north Florida
and into central Florida as far south as Orange County, which includes Orlando.

PEOPLE LINE STREETS OF OLD NAPLES FOR CHRISTMAS PARADE
This year, parade-goers werent wearing Santa hats for looks. At 58 degrees and
dropping, with wind gusts up to 18 mph, folks lined up Tuesday night along
Fifth Avenue South in Naples wearing fleece, hats and layers to stay warm.
Its a little chilly, but its just like Christmas, said Ronnie Schaeffer,
watching the citys annual Christmas parade with her husband, Ed, and
granddaughter, Bailey, 2.

SIGNAGE PROBLEM MAY SINK NAPLES BAY BOAT SPEED ZONES
Naples Bay boat speed zones are not enforceable because the signs marking the
zones dont have a state permit or city ordinance number on them, according to
state reviewers. The problem has come to light just weeks after the Naples City
Council voted to adopt stricter boat speed zones on the bay after months of
debate that featured opposition from Collier County commissioners and local
boaters.

COLLIER TO USE $180M IN BONDS TO FINANCE PROJECTS
Collier County commissioners have approved using $180 million in revenue bonds
to pay for five construction projects. Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously
authorized the bond sale. It will finance construction on the North Naples
Regional Park, the courthouse annex, a courthouse parking garage, a new
emergency operations center and a county fleet facility.

IN PERSPECTIVE:
JAY AMBROSE: STANDING UP FOR FREEDOM
Says Fred Smith, whose illuminating conceptualizations pour forth at something
like a dozen per minute, its a thin line out there justifying liberty, just a
handful of great thinkers in the past and very few activists taking on the
enemy in political combat. But Smith is doing it, and his Competitive
Enterprise Institute is doing it, and you feel that if it came down to just him
and CEI against the world, the world would be at a disadvantage.

FLORIDIANS WHO LOST HOMES TO STORMS COULD GET $1,500 TAX REBATE
Floridians whose homes were destroyed in last seasons four hurricanes could
get property tax rebates of up to $1,500, under a bill approved Tuesday by a
House panel. Its one of several relief efforts lawmakers are considering. The
measure approved unanimously by the House Finance and Tax Committee is meant to
refund some of the property taxes paid on homes by people who werent able to
use them for a good part of the year.

IN NEAPOLITAN:
LETS TALK FOOD: AN OLD NAPLES CHRISTMAS
As one travels throughout the Naples area during the holiday season, it is
difficult to imagine what the Christmas holiday was like 50 years ago. Imagine
if you will, a tiny village of about 2,000 people, one traffic light, two
churches, two schools, no condominiums, one theater, two grocery stores and few
restaurants. I arrived in Naples on Oct. 1, 1952, when the population was a
scarce 2,000 pioneering souls.
