Google squashes Santy worm (Security)

Google has responded to calls from antivirus companies to stop the
advance of an Internet worm that was using the search engine's
technology to spread among online bulletin boards. Antivirus companies
say the Santy worm, which searches Google for sites that use a
vulnerable version of the phpBB bulletin board software, was spreading
quickly and had already infected about 40,000 Web sites by Tuesday

Gigabyte creates dual-GPU graphics card

Chicago (IL) - Gigabyte will announce Friday a graphics card
running two graphics processors on one board. According to sources,
the SLI card will lift current 3DMark2003 record levels by a
significant margin while being priced lower than ATI's and Nvidia's
single-GPU high-end cards. If two graphics cards in one system are too
expensive or simply not fast enough, Gigabyte's new 3D1 board may be

Google Patches Desktop Search Flaw

Web search powerhouse Google has acknowledged�and patched�a
security vulnerability in its desktop search utility that opens the
doors for man-in-the-middle data leak attacks. The Google fix was
issued after a pair of Rice University graduate students discovered
that two different attack scenarios could be used to exploit the

Microsoft sells Slate.com to Washington Post

WASHINGTON Microsoft sold its popular Slate online magazine
Tuesday to The Washington Post Co., a move that will make Slate's
political commentary and quirky feature articles more broadly

MS loses Europe appeal, will ship WMP-free

Microsoft is to start shipping a cut-down version of Windows in
Europe from January, following the failure of its appeal to the
European Court of First Instance over penalties imposed by the
Commission earlier this year. Microsoft hasn't run out of appeal
routes, but the Court ordered the company to begin carrying out the
Commission's decision immediately. This, according to Microsoft
