 Welcome

This week I watched a weekly television drama that I used to enjoy. Now I am feeling tricked. When I first began watching the series, it seemed innocent, but as the season has worn on, the writers have pushed the sexual and violent content beyond what I'm comfortable with.

I've discussed this with a Christian friend who has no trouble with the content and thinks I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. It seems we all hold differences of opinion about TV watching. Some people avoid TV altogether and don't even own one; others watch most anything that interests them.

Is there a definitive answer on this subject? How can we determine our standards for TV viewing, and how do we apply those standards? Our new Bible study, The Television Dilemma, addresses these questions and provides principles to help you navigate this tricky issue.

We also are introducing the last two segments of our Faith in the Workplace series. Study 9, Reasoning with Skeptics, explores how to share your faith in a way that appeals to a person's intellect. This study discusses overcoming the fear of reason so you can express your faith in logical terms.

Study 10, When They Want to Know Jesus, explains what to do when someone responds to God's invitation. It can be intimidating when that person looks to you for guidance in the first steps of faith, but this study offers practical ways to help.

Blessings!

Five Ways God Answers Prayer
Ten ways to identify a promising person.

Over the years, I've discovered from Scripture and experience that God loves to answer our prayers. Here are five of his most frequent answers:

"No, I love you too much."

The Lord of the universe isn't under obligation to say "yes" to every prayer. That's a good thing, considering some of the things we request!

But sometimes God says "no" to our most heartfelt requests. Have you discovered this to be true in your own life? I certainly have. When my friend Diane started losing her hearing. When my mother-in-law came down with polio. When my nephew contracted aids.

 Questions from Bible Readers

I long to have children. Will God ever fulfill this dream?
Be aware that God's timing is not your timing.
Genesis 25:20-26

It's so hard to wait when you really want something—and even harder when that something is such a good thing to long for. Children are considered a blessing from God. So why doesn't he just deliver one to you? Why do you have to wait when all around you teens are getting pregnant out of wedlock, when other friends seem to "pop" out babies like they're operating a slot machine?

Meet Rebekah, a kindred spirit. She had been married for twenty years before she had a child—and then she had twins! Talk about a double blessing and a surprise …
