Day after: white cloth, candles on Car Nicobar islands of death
The day after, the sea here almost mocks in its ordinariness. The sun blazing,
when you look down from the AN-32 on its way to Car Nicobar from Port Blair,
the waves are tiny white flecks on the calm Bay of Bengal. But once you land,
you know why this is the latest death zone of yesterdays deluge.

26 countries alerted in 15 minutes, India not one of them
After yesterdays earthquake, there were 90 minutes before the first wave of
the deluge crashed into the Indian coast. Within 15 minutes of the earthquake,
scientists running the tsunami warning system for the Pacific had issued a
cautionary from their Honolulu hub, to 26 participating countries. India was
not among them.

Just before the Board of Directors of Reliance Industries met on Monday for the
first time since the battle over ownership issues went public, Anil Ambani
spoke to reporters. He told them that the Rs 2,999 crore buyback of Reliance
shares was inappropriate.

Cant you smell it? Fish doesnt smell this way
Squatting on the wreckage of a canoe crushed by killer waves, gazing out into
the calm sea, Thyagarajan is worried about tomorrow. Moonram pakkam (the
third day), he says. This fisherman firmly believes in the myth that if the
sea loves you, it will return your body the third day after.
