Powerful storm hits state, Tucson barely gets wet
A powerful Pacific storm that spawned a tornado in Southern California, 
flooding in Sedona and landslides south of Flagstaff largely bypassed Tucson 
yesterday. But several inches of rain fell on Mount Lemmon and yet another 
strong system is expected to bring wet weather to Southern Arizona early next 
week.

Cox fees go up 
Cox Communications cable rates are going up in Tucson, part of a trend of 
rising consumer prices locally. The company will implement a $2.88 price 
increase on "Cox Limited Basic" service beginning Feb. 15, said Monica 
Contreras, Cox spokeswoman. Customers in Tucson, Green Valley and Sahuarita who 
now pay $15.07 a month will pay $17.95.

Probation officers' DUI burden grows 
Police are arresting more drunken drivers to keep them off Tucson streets, but 
that's leaving probation officers keeping tabs on more repeat offenders with 
fewer resources.

Clinical therapist accused of having sex with girl, 16 
A North Side clinical therapist and charter school director is in jail, charged 
with having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old patient since August. 
Richard E. Giberti, 42, was arrested last night and charged with two counts of 
sexual conduct with a minor, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a spokeswoman for the 
Pima County Sheriff's Department. He is in jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

Woman: Dad died, I listened 
A 21-year-old woman jailed in the slaying of her father said she listened from 
the next room while her boyfriend beat and stabbed the man for more than 30 
minutes.

Medicare drug-aid deadline is tomorrow 
People on Medicare have until 10 p.m. tomorrow - Tucson time - to apply for up 
to $1,200 in prescription drug assistance. Those who qualify financially will 
receive $600 toward their 2004 prescription expenses and another $600 for 2005. 
Since the money rolls over from this year to next, applicants can still get the 
full $1,200.
