running? If it didn't cause a problem, don't worry about ice on the
outside, unless it interferes with any linkage(s). If it starts to run
rough, you could have internal carburetor icing, which is a problem. It
occurs at certain combinations of air temperature and humidity, usually
right around and below freezing with high humidity.Sounds like what you
had. Aircraft with carburetors have a specific control to deal with this.
It closes a damper which pulls heated intake air to the carburetor through
a tube heated by the exhaust pipe. Feeding hot air to the carburetor does
rob the engine of a little power, so you don't want to run this way all of
the time. Depending on the conditions, you may never have it happen again.
Maybe you could rig a temporary heater with some aluminium dryer duct, in
case you need it again. I run my tractor in the winter all of the time and
never had a problem. It's engine is similar to what's in most gensets.
