Hello everyone, I am glad I found this group!
I was looking at Graham Stabler's site and his very nice Proxxon
conversion. Thanks for posting it, Graham!
The parts I intend to machine are very small, more like engraving.
Materials will be wood, aluminum, brass, plastics. The reason I am
looking at the Proxxon has to do with weight and portability. I do
not have more room in my garage/shop at this time, so my mill will
have to be inside the house. I have a HF 7x10 lathe with the usual
array of other tools.
Also, I happen to have a milling table that I believe is identical to
the one in the little Proxxon mill, so I am familiar with the size
limitations. It is well built for what it is.
What I have not been able to find out is how to remove the hand
wheels from the leadscrew, without damage of course. I think I can
do the rest of the conversion to CNC easily if I can get those little
wheels off the table.
I am a computer programmer, and have a background in electronics, so
the rest of the work should be straightforward. I have a couple
unused computers also.
