Robert, I had a dumptruck that would not start once, it had been sitting a long time, After trying lots of stuff, I found the compression was wayyyyyyyy low. The oil had completely drained from the cylinder walls, and therefore there was no oil to allow the rings to completely seal.  I added some oil to each cylinder and by golly she fired and has been running fine ever since.
Just an idea that worked for me.

The spark plugs were relatively new, so I didn't take them out before
& check them. Today I decided to change them, and to also do a
compression test. You're supposed to do this on a warm engine, but
  that's obviously not possible.

So far I did the test on the left side only, and here's what I found:

  #7 : about 50

  #5 : about 55

  #3 : about 50

#1 : about 140, but oil in the cylinder.

So it's obvious that there has been some serious damage to the rings
or whatever by the misfiring. There's no point in continuing to try to
get it to start, short of an engine overhaul.

Since I don't want to attempt an engine overhaul by myself, and I
don't want to pay someone to do it, my current thinking is that I
should dispose of the vehicle. If anyone in Southern California might
be interested in acquiring a 1974 Travel Queen at nominal cost and
overhauling/replacing the engine, please contact me off-line. The
living area is actually in quite good shape, I've put a lot of
improvements into it so it's almost modern. I've uploaded a photo of
the Travel Queen in Zion National Park, titled "Zion" (#133, I believe).
