After reading the article re: the breastfeeding mom that was requested to breastfeed her child elsewhere (the JC Penney article), I was furious. I remember how discouraged I was when nursing my son (now 4, and yes, he misses "mommy's milk" as he calls it. I wrote JCPenney's customer service center and below is their response.
Helen, Mom to Jordan, age 4 (and still walks up to nursing mom's and congradulates babies about getting the "best milk on the planet").
I would like to extend our sincere apologies to Jennifer Fox and breast-
feeding mothers. As a family store, we fully respect and accommodate
all our customers including nursing mothers. Our intention was to offer
Mrs. Fox an opportunity to have privacy and comfort while breast-feeding.
While we suggested the restroom as an example of an area within our store to
breast feed, we have accommodated many mothers in the past by offering a
private setting in both our fitting rooms and sitting areas outside our
catalog department. It was never our intention to offend Mrs. Fox as
JCPenney is a family oriented store and takes great pride in providing a
warm and inviting shopping environment.
Again, we extend our apologies and hope that you will give us an
opportunity
to serve you in the
future.
Cordially,
Tony Sicurella

Someone once said that "it takes a village to raise a child"..........even the most unconventional "village" can be effective - just fill it with love and watch it grow!!
