CANDLELIGHT VIGIL SERVES TO DRAW ATTENTION TO ISSUE OF HOMELESSNESS 
They turned out in frigid conditions Tuesday night, all for the purpose of 
remembering those who have no homes in Southwest Florida and elsewhere in the 
United States. More than 75 people gathered in the St. Matthew�s House 
courtyard for a candlelight vigil on Dec. 21, the official National Homeless 
Persons� Memorial Day.

Ave Maria University is now eligible for federal financial aid. The American 
Academy for Liberal Education granted the Roman Catholic school candidacy, or 
pre-accreditation, status almost one year after AMU submitted its application

TOP RANKING DCF OFFICIAL QUITS, CRITICIZES PRIVITIZATION AND CUTS 
The Department of Children & Families� top contracting official has resigned, 
issuing a strongly worded missive criticizing the social services agency�s 
oversight of private companies it does business with. Robert D. Fierro said in 
his three-page letter Monday he could no longer manage the state�s child 
welfare, mental health and domestic violence programs after cutbacks reduced 
his staff by half.
