I think the JDBC driver tries to start an embedded Neo4j database when you
point it directly at the graph.db files. You should instead point it at the
server URL, similar to what you do with the REST client. Then they’ll both go
through the server.
So you should ask the JDBC driver for connections in a manner similar to this:
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:neo4j://localhost:7474/");
