I object to the term 'pre-digital' I know, they are probably referring to digital, as being used in consumer items. CD players didn't even exist before nixies made their exit. Personal computers did, however, exists. I think the MIPS Altair was introduced in January 1975. Nixies where still being built into instruments at that time, though being designed out of newer gear. In the stricter sense, DIGITAL means discrete state. We've attached ourselves on the simplest implementation, of binary, using only 0 & 1, but any discrete state format would qualify. You really don't need to use logic chips: TTL, 4000 CMOS, PLDs, or any part specifically made for digital operation, for the circuit to be digital. It still applies, even if you use discrete transistors, vacuum tubes, relays, or even cold cathode tubes. As long as it abruptly bounces between discrete levels, its DIGITAL. Maybe not TTL compatible, but still digital. <OT rant> On the subject of abusing the lingo. I really hate the way they throw around the term ORGANIC. Everything we eat, short of table salt, is organic. Yes, most it has been processed, and may contain so chemicals best left outside our bodies. But don't claim its NOT ORGANIC. Find another term. PLEASE !! </OT rant> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group. To post to this group, send an email to [email protected].
