It is worth pointing out that the TTL Cookbook sells for the princely
sum (used) of 1 US Cent at amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0672210355/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&qid=1287694129&sr=8-1&condition=used
There should be literally no reason not to own this book.
It's companion, the CMOS Cookbook is usually slightly more pricey (it
being slightly more useful to the majority of people, I assume).. But I
was still able to find my copy for about 50cents via half.com

Get yourself a copy of Don Lancaster's TTL Cookbook. Its all explained
there, in a hobby friendly fashion. Its the same info given in old TTL
databooks, but you don't need to be an engineer to interpret the info.
