I read them as the manufacturer's guarantee to the design engineer and not actual projected failure dates based on experience. We now have information based on 40+ years of experience in real and practical applications.
By the way, the tubes I used were all suplus, showed obvious evidence of previous usage (lightened areas under the wire segments), and had probably already seen 5-15 years of service (12 hours/day, 5 days/ week). My clocks have linear power supplies. The transformer gets warm.
