I have a non-multiplexed direct-drive circuit with 74141s driving the nixies.
I've been
wondering - is it enough to keep the 74141s switched off, or do I need to build
in a
circuit that will remove the anode voltage?
Jan,
You will see a dull orange glow in the tubes, since a 74141 has Zener
diodes on each output which only allow the cathodes to rise to 55V,
which will place over 130V across the tubes.
Better to turn off the HV supply, or use one common anode driver circuit
to turn off all the anodes.
