It's a good start, and you came to the right place.  We have folks here from 
complete beginners to seasoned experts.  And we all have stuff to learn!

Look around in the archives some, there's some good explanations of how VFDs 
work.  Just lighting up a segment isn't too hard, and is very gratifying.

To get started, it might make sense to buy a ready-made PSU somewhere.  I've 
bought some from surplus outfits that supply both the filament voltage
and the anode/grid voltages.  Here's a picture of a Russian VFD I'm lighting up 
using one of these power supplies:

Your display displays digits instead of a row of dots, but the principle is the 
same.
