Too bad. Looks like potting compound. I saw a lot of that with military grade 
stuff. Shock resistance and also makes it real hard to see whats inside. 
Burroughs obviously didn't want us to see the goodies.

I did that today. Unfortunately no luck so far: The circuit inside is
encapsulated in something like silicon:

I was able to make it come of the metal case and lift it out a bit,
but it seems to be very hard to go further.
Also the metal tabs are not intended to be bended more often than
once. I will leave them open for now...
