Hi Jens, Looks pretty good. Is that vacuum gauge also a pressure gauge? I deal with refrigerant and I adjust the flow of gas with the three way valve but in your case the gas valves will work fine for that. Still you need to know how much pressure your applying to the nixie. Any idea how much pressure that would be? I wouldn't think a 1 meter hose is too long but they do make shorter ones just so long as it makes for easy connections. The pump will evacuate the air and boil off the moister just fine. I let it run at least an hour on a short system, then lock it off and secure the pump. Wait about a half an hour and see that your vacuum gauge is where you left it. If not tighten everything up and run a bit longer. Sometimes there is no leak just impurities being released from the hose and tube components. Maybe you have a good guess about how long it takes to get the nasties out of the tube. I sure don't. Trial and error? I'm anxious to hear how this works out for you. Dennis

Hi folks, I am making some small progress on the way to making Nixie tubes. My vacuum pump (2-stage) is here, that is quite nice. Next step will be to build the vacuum meter with a special sensor chip from Honeywell. I also figured out where to get the gas: it is quite easy to obtain 1l bottles with 12bar, i.e. 12 atmospheric liters of gas, both from Neon and Argon. This is why I made this sketch: http://www.jb-electronics.de/tmp/sketch.png John pointed out how to connect everything, and I tried to include his device in the design. The connection from the pump to the 3-way valve is rather long, say 1m. The connections from the t-junctions to the 3-way-valve are short, about 15cm. The vacuum meter is also connected closely. Does that make sense? Anything to improve? I hope so :-) Best regards, Jens -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group.
