Maybe, maybe not - it depends on how long the cable is, the electrical 
environment in place and whether, to abuse a phrase, "Do I feel lucky?"... 
Naughty cheapskates at the fab - you save a few cents by not having 
magnetics in the socket, and its unlikely that anyone will notice until its 
too late.

Embarrassing for RS & Farnell, both of whom are mainstream professional 
suppliers in the DigiKey & Newark (owned by Farnell) mold . Doubly 
embarrassing for the RPi lot... Big black mark against the fab & their QA 
people...
