A friend just dropped by with a Karlsson clock that he says is losing about a minute a day. It was the first time I've seen one of these in person and I'm not familiar with the circuit. I'm impressed by the fit & finish, but underwhelmed by the performance. The tubes glow dim and look almost grayish, clearly multiplexed with noticeable flicker when I scan my eyes past it. Nowhere near as attractive as the bright, sharp directly driven tubes in all the clocks I've built.
Anyway has anyone here worked on one of these before? Is the timing derived from the power line or does it use the CPU clock crystal? I checked the one electrolytic capacitor and it tests fine for ESR. Did a visual examination and don't see anything amiss. Figured I'd ask around before I get out the scope and start poking around. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group.
