Hi folks,

I tried the HV setup I wrote about a couple of days ago, and naturally, it does not work, because the transformers I use are designed for 230V primary voltage, so they are saturated at around 270V and cannot be used to obtain 380V AC as planned originally.

However, I now plan to use a variac (230V, 1.6A) and a 230V <-> 400V transformer (20VA) in series, providing me with up to 400V AC when I connect the 500V transformer backwards. This is no problem because it is designed for this voltage.

But the variac - with its 1.6 amps - is still a little too powerful for my taste. Does anyone of you guys know where to get a small one with 20VA or so?

The smallest I could find is this one here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/0.75a-variable-transformer-6476

Thanks,
Jens
