Here's an example of a NE555 Nixie PSU with layout that shows the fat 
tracks on the PCB:

(it 
could be made even tighter but it works). At the end of the text there are 
also references to a design by Nick De Smith : 
http://www.desmith.net/NMdS/Electronics/NixiePSU.html but that one is an 
SMD design and it also uses a different switching ic, but it shows the need 
of the fat tracks.
