I found an interesting web site www.bulbcollector.com (Probably known to a lot of you all ready.) that has a lot of interesting information on various types of antique lamps and some tube related info as well. On the bulbs they cover incandescent, neon, argon etc. What caught my eye was the following page www.bulbcollector.com/article005.html This page covers early neon and figural advertising lamps. There is quite a bit of information and references to the patent numbers. There is even a drawing of a neon lamp with segments brought out to make an animated walking man! This looks right up Dalibor Farnı's alley! With Dalibor's knowledge and modern etching methods some pretty neat things could be made with the nixie clocks. How about a little animated man in place of the colons?
There is reference to how Birdseye got started in the neon lamps by buying out another company. For the TCA there is a series of pages with pictures of some real neat tube boxes as well.
