Hi Martin,
Yes, the top one is in fact an H-bridge. 
The 2nd circuit is as good as the first, it only consumes a tiny
bit more current. I’d favor the simple circuit, quite a reduction
of parts which makes the H-bridge look a bit over the top.

There are many discussions back and forth for which is the best solution, but 
the one that user Slvik has proposed at the top works very well for me too.
