I was wondering if they were truly glowing cathodes vs glow-tube; from the 
video they dont look like tubes used in neon signage. Rather amazing how 
uniform they glow considering their immense size.

BTW, Strattman wrote a good text (Neon Techniques) that I highly recommend 
if you are even just a bit curious about neon sign construction and the 
amount of skill + equipment that is required to produce them.
