This one actually honors the word roots. "Krypton" comes from the Greek
"kryptos" meaning "hidden". A crypt derives from the same root. Also,
unsurprisingly, "cryptography".

Helium comes from "helios" (the sun), as it was first discovered by its
spectral lines in the solar spectrum.

Neon comes from directly from the Greek "neon", meaning "new". If I had named
it, I'd have gone for "glowing red" or something, as it outshines all the other
gases by a large margin.

Argon comes from the Greek "argos", meaning "inactive".

Radon was, of course, named after radium (in turn from the Latin "radius",
meaning "ray"), but was originally called "niton" after the Latin "nitens",
meaning "shining".

The more you know...
