I went to university and studied architecture with Shiu-Kay Kan in the early
1970s. As a student two years below him he once had me running about all over
the place on a mad crackpot scheme of his. He made a name for himself some
decades ago as a lighting designer.

I have just been contacted via Clock-It by a designer, Steven Scott, doing a
doctorate at the Royal College of Art. He wants a display that shows 00:00
flickering on and off every half second, slightly out of phase with others that
also say 00:00 and flicker on and off. He thought he'd like to use a large
quantity of the big Burroughs B7971 jobbies which he seemed to think were
readily available. I have put him square on why it is a naff idea, for all the
reasons I am sure you can think of also. I said the end result would be like
watching bagels go stale, but I suspect he'll pursue it anyway.

Ah sweet mystery of life…
