Thank you for the description, now I understand how it works. Have you considered using depletion mode mosfets as current regulators? The IXYS (Microchip) IXCY10M45S (450V) or IXCY10M90S (900V) are sometimes used as either a pass element before a LDO regulator or as a CCS in audio amplifier designs.
