Hi Nick, the base was made from a piece of Teak that had been a floating shelf at some point, I picked it up for next to nothing at a timber merchants where I get the hardwoods for my clocks, they sell bundles of mixed offcuts which are a lot less expensive.. It turned out a lot better than I thought it would as Teak is quite plainly grained compared to other hardwoods
