For current, there aren't any 20mA meters that I could find, but there are plenty of 0-20V meters, so just measure the voltage-drop across a 1K / 1% (or better) resistor. Just be careful to use at least a 1/2W resistor; recommend 1W to reduce self-heating, which affects the accuracy.
I went thru this in-depth with my nixie bench supply last year, and ended-up using isolated DCDC converters to drive the meters.
