I have a couple thoughts on a kit. I would lean toward through hole components if possible to improve ease of assemble and hackability, this may not be practical though. Using a socketed Arduino compatible controller would also help with the hackability. I can't wait to someday see a jumbo nixie for an affordable* price. *compared to a CD47. PS.
