Nice try! I have not had much luck melting a nixie tube with a torch and careful uniform heating. There's always some place where the glass has too high a temperature gradient, usually the base, so it cracks. I think you would need to heat-soak the tube at the annealing temperature for a few minutes, and then try to add a tubulation at the base while carefully heating.
