They don’t need AC. They will run off DC, but only one electrode will light up. 
Also, 60V will be either the maintenance voltage or the minimum strike voltage. 
You can think of them as small Nixie tubes, so you just need to calculate a 
suitable current limiting resistor, like you do for nixies.
