EDIT - Philips bought out Mullard in 1928 but still marketed tubes under the Mullard label - I should use Wikipedia more often! Valvo was a German company

Philips was a company of many names. they had an internal system of etch marks with a code for date, design and factory that made a given tube. (not sure if the "specials" would get the full code.)

in each country they sold tubes they used the "local" name, like Mullard generaly a firm they had bought over the years. So Amperex, Philips, Miniwatt, Rogers, Pope, Mullard, and several others were all valid, and often were applied by the local distributor.

 is proably a good start
