The USB licensing group requires that connectors must be oriented so the 
USB logo on the cable "faces the user". However, this is nearly-universally 
ignored. It took many generations to finally come up with a connector that 
plugs in either way, but unfortunately that spec throws in the kitchen sync 
(hah!) as well. Too bad they didn't learn from SCSI, where everyone got fed 
up and decided to use SCSI commands over a SATA connector.
