That's very neat, I have had a similar idea (in my head only!) for some 
time now though my plan was to use APA106 RGB LED's for the seconds, I 
expect neons will look more 'authentic' or 'nixie-esque'. SMD is something 
I have yet to accomplish - I live fairly much in the PTH world!
