I made a clock with a 3JP12 back in 2002 when I was doing that. It lasted a few weeks. That phosphor is rather delicate!
BTW I am working on getting back into the scope clock business, making a laser cutter for the cases and using a Teensy to do the X-Y signal generation. I've already written the code; its DACs are excellent for this job.
